OC Parks Employee, 25, Killed In Canyon Rollover Crash: How To Help

TRABUCO CANYON, CA — A 25-year-old Orange County Parks employee was killed over the weekend when the car he was driving in rolled almost 300 feet down an embankment in Trabuco Canyon.

The crash happened just before 1:20 p.m. on Saturday at 30892 Trabuco Canyon Road in O'Neill Regional Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The victim was identified by family members and authorities as Luis Alberto Casas, a Garden Grove resident.

According to KTLA, Casas was driving in the park when his vehicle rolled 200 to 300 feet down an embankment.

It was not immediately clear if Casas was on duty at the time of the crash or if he was driving an Orange County Parks vehicle.

"OC Parks is mourning the loss of Extra Help Park Maintenance Worker Luis Casas, 25, who was killed in a rollover crash Saturday, Aug. 29 while working at O’Neill Regional Park," OC Parks said in a statement published by KTLA.

"OC Parks continues to support staff affected by this incident and is working closely with local authorities, including the California Highway Patrol who is leading the investigation.  

Luis contributed greatly to the care and stewardship of O’Neill Regional Park, and his loss is felt across OC Parks. We ask the public to keep Luis’ family, friends and colleagues in their thoughts during this difficult time."

A GoFundMe page was created to provide aid to Casas's family during this difficult time.

"A beloved son whom some also call brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend, soldier, has lost his life in a tragic work accident," Maya Negron wrote. "At only 25 years old, he leaves behind his two parents and 3 younger siblings. The sudden devastating news has the entire family heartbroken."
