Santa Margarita Reaches Title Game of 'Best of the West' Volleyball Tournament

Santa Margarita's boys volleyball team fell to Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, 25-22, 25-22, in the Gold Division championship match of the Best of the West Invitational Saturday at Poway High.

The Eagles, who lost to Buchanan Friday to finish second in their pool, scored victories over Westlake (25-19, 25-20) and Corona del Mar (34-36, 26-24, 15-10) to begin play on Saturday, then defeated Loyola of Los Angeles (25-19, 25-23) in the semifinals.

Also in the Gold Division, Corona del Mar finished tied for fifth with Buchanan thanks to a victory over Long Beach Poly (25-15, 25-20), the loss to Santa Margarita, followed by a win over Santa Barbara (19-25, 25-22, 15-7). Newport Harbor, which finished tied for 11th place with Poly, started with a loss to Buchanan (25-20, 25-18),  followed by a victory over Huntington Beach (25-18, 25-18), and a loss to Crespi (18-25, 25-22, 15-12).
