Santiago Fire Stopped At 155 Acres; 100 Percent Containment

The Santiago Fire, which burned all week off the 241 toll road and Santiago Canyon Road, has been 100 percent contained, OCFA said.

The Santiago brush fire reached 100 percent containment Thursday morning, authorities said. The fire scorched 155 acres near the 241 Tollway in Irvine has burned since Monday afternoon between the toll road and Santiago Canyon Road. No structures were damaged, and no evacuations were ordered during the event. One firefighter sustained minor injuries, the Orange County Fire Authority reported.

Firefighters were initially concerned that the blaze would jump Santiago Canyon Road, and firefighters worked to head it off before it reached the thoroughfare, OCFA Capt. Tony Bommarito said.

Though the fire didn't threaten the tollway, northbound lanes were temporarily closed as a precaution. The fire was fueled by a great deal of dry brush, but wind wasn't much of a factor, officials said.
