Southern Section Releases Spring Sports Rankings of April 18
Santa Margarita finally reaches top of Division 1 boys volleyball rankings, while Los Alamitos jumps to No. 4 in the softball rankings.

The CIF Southern Section office released its weekly spring preseason coaches' rankings for baseball, softball, boys volleyball and boys tennis on Monday.
In, perhaps, the most overdue move of the season, Santa Margarita's boys volleyball team, thanks to winning the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions title on Saturday, moved into the top spot in the Division 1 coaches' poll. But the Eagles (24-2) didn't win it by beating the former No. 1 team, Mira Costa. Newport Harbor handled that in the semifinals, and the Sailors (16-5) jumped three spots in the rankings to No. 4.
In baseball, there was very little movement. Trabuco Hills (15-2) helped solidify its No. 3 spot in the Division 2 rankings with a sweep of its two games against Aliso Niguel and a 6-1 victory over Mission Viejo last week. With that loss, coupled with a 9-7 loss to Villa Park, the Diablos (12-6) fell out of the rankings. As did the Wolverines (13-6).

In softball, Los Alamitos (19-2-1), which had dropped three spots to No. 8 in the Division 1 rankings last week, jumped to No. 4 after Sunset League victories over Edison and Marina.
