Toddler Drowns in Trabuco Pool

A 2 1/2-year-old girl drowned in the swimming pool of her Trabuco Canyon home, authorities said today.

The toddler was found unresponsive in the pool at 7 Seacliff about 5:30 p.m. Monday and was transported to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later, the Orange County coroner’s office reported. She was identified as Lucia Ulrich.

According to Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority, the girl’s mother found the child, who was fully clothed, in the backyard pool of their home, and she began screaming and called 911.

A neighbor heard the woman’s screams, and administered CPR to the child until paramedics arrived, Concialdi said.

Two other toddlers nearly drowned in separate incidents in residential pools on Saturday night, one in the Tustin area and the other in the Placentia area, Concialdi said.

The girl’s death on Monday night was the seventh fatal drowning in Orange County this year, along with with seven other non-fatal drowning incidents, Concialdi said.
