Trick or Treat with Wizard of Oz in Rancho Santa Margarita

RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, CA — Last year, the house at 5 Allyssum in Rancho Santa Margarita was hopping with jumping spiders, ghouls and goblins. This year, the RSM residents—formerly of West Hollywood—are going old school Hollywood.

"My other half wanted to do a calmer theme than last year," homeowner Bart Ortberg said. "The Wizard of Oz was decided upon."

For 2016, the family is dressed up in all manner of Yellow Brick Road and Emerald City finery, everything from the Lollipop Guild and Emerald City Munchkins, to Auntie Em and the Wizard himself.

Lifesized cutouts of the original Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow and Cowardly Lion, as well as larger than life sized Wicked Witch of the East striped stockings and ruby slippers deck the Rancho Santa Margarita home.

In year's past, the Ortberg's have made TMZ headlines with their West Hollywood representation of "The Flintstones."

According to Ortberg, his 70-year-old mother dressed as Betty Rubble made national news.

On Halloween this year, the Ortberg's invite all to their Allyssum home to enjoy the larger than life Halloween display of "Wizard of Oz," and enjoy chocolate bars they'll be handing out for the kids.

According to Ortberg, the best part of the Halloween House in Rancho Santa Margarita is family fun.

"It's all about the fun everyone has as a family," he said. "We did a dress rehearsal on Sunday and it was hysterical! I've never laughed so hard as when we saw each other all dressed up for the first time."

New residents to Rancho Santa Margarita, they are excited about sharing their tradition with the new neighborhood.

"I love my parents so much and I am so grateful they live nearby and are a big part of our lives, and Halloween," he said.
