Water Bill Increases On The Rise For Some South OC Residents

Plans for a public hearing to discuss the water rate increases was scheduled for June. Here's what to know.

TRABUCO CANYON, CA — The Trabuco Canyon Water District proposed new water, wastewater and recycled water rates for the next five years — and residents living in the water district can learn more about the increased rates at a public hearing on June 29.

At the public hearing, the Board will consider adopting increases to the District’s current water, wastewater, and recycled water rates and charges for the Trabuco Canyon Water District.

The proposed average rate increases for a single-family by the month for drinking water and wastewater is currently at $133.48. If the hiked rates are adopted, Trabuco Canyon Water District residents would be looking at an average monthly bill of $170.51 for 2023, $200.35 for 2025, $235.42 for 2026, $260.31 for 2027 and $287.80 for 2028.

The Trabuco Canyon Water District services the communities of Trabuco Canyon, Robinson Ranch, Trabuco Highlands, Walden, Rancho Cielo, Portola Hills, Santiago Canyon Estates, and Dove Canyon.

According to a report published by the Trabuco Canyon Water District, the rate hikes are being proposed in response to increasing water costs and an approximate $24 million investment to repair and replace critical facilities operated by the district.

Compliance with regulatory requirements, maintaining emergency and fire response capabilities, labor, energy costs, increasing costs for materials and the need for "prudent" reserves were also costs factored into the rate increases.

The public hearing will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 29 at the District Administration Facility, 32003 Dove Canyon Drive.
