Politics & Government

Yes, we can talk....

Yes, there will be a forum where all candidates are invited to speak with the citizens of RSM. BLOG

Recently, I posted a suggestion we have a community forum where the candidates could meet with the public and offer their vision of our future.  Since that time, there has been a slow, but steady drum beat of voices urging such a forum be held.

I’m pleased to announce there will be a forum.  Each City Council candidate will be invited to speak and share equal time with the other candidates.  Each local measure will have a chance for people  and against to have equal time to share their thoughts.

In addition to the candidates speaking, each will have equal time to answer questions from the citizens of RSM who attend the forum.  Same with the local measures.  Then the candidates will have a chance for a brief close.

The formal part of the meeting will conclude with the supporters of each candidate/measure electing a citizen to make the closing argument.  Just my weird idea the final word should come from the voters.

Tell your friends, think of your questions and get ready.  The person who schedules the Bell Tower Community Center rooms is on a well- earned vacation.  She will return tomorrow and we will get a date and time set.

If you have suggestions, issues or just thoughts on this, please us this posting on The Patch.  Since this is an open forum, we should keep the planning public.

After the meeting there should be time for candidates to mingle with the voters.  This would be a great time to meet candidates you may not have met in the past.
