Young Mom Killed In Street Racing Crash ID'd As RSM Woman, Deputies Say

MISSION VIEJO, CA — A 21-year-old woman was killed in a violent crash during a street race in Orange County Thursday night that involved her brother, authorities said.

The crash happened Thursday at 9:41 p.m. in the area of Los Alisos Boulevard and Mustang Run, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

Upon arrival, deputies found the victim — identified as 21-year-old Shalia Deciderio, of Rancho Santa Margarita — dead at the scene.

The driver of a vehicle involved in the crash, 20-year-old Jaime Rojas of Mission Viejo, was taken to the hospital.

The driver of the other vehicle, 20-year-old Aiden Deciderio of Rancho Santa Margarita, remained at the scene.

An initial investigation pointed to street racing as the cause of the crash, deputies said. Both drivers were arrested for Vehicular Manslaughter With Gross Negligence, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

According to loved ones, Shalia leaves behind a young child.

"Shalia was a loving, caring, vibrant, and outgoing person whose beautiful spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her," Consuelo Mendoza wrote on a GoFundMe page dedicated to the young mother's family. "This loss has left an unimaginable emptiness in the hearts of those who loved Shalia."
