FBI Inspects Locked Shasta Ballots as National Media Descends on Redding Election Fight – [your]NEWS (yournews.com) — Federal agents recently cut into a locked ballot room at Shasta County's Market Street elections office in Redding, inspecting 2024 and 2026 ballots and leaving an FBI evidence seal in place. As Registrar Clint Curtis's fraud claims, Measure B's court fight, and looming shredding deadlines collide, Redding voters face a nationally watched test of how their elections will be run this November and beyond.
2. Empire Recovery Center to reopen outpatient services in Redding (actionnewsnow.com) — Redding residents needing substance use support will soon have another local option as Empire Recovery Center works to reopen its outpatient program by the end of 2026. The long-running downtown-based nonprofit plans counseling, education, and a community closet to help 100–150 clients at a time continue recovery while living and working in Redding.
3. Firefighters contain vegetation fire in Shasta County (actionnewsnow.com) — Fire crews from the Redding Fire Department and CAL FIRE quickly contained a vegetation fire near College View Drive and Mercy Oaks Drive, keeping it to three acres with no infrastructure damage. The blaze, reported Wednesday afternoon in Redding's Mutual Threat Zone, was controlled within about 20 minutes and was traced to accidental ignition by a landscaping crew mowing grass.
4. Redding Colt 45s join new Far Western Conference to boost recruiting and competition (krcrtv.com) — Redding's own Colt 45s are joining the new Far Western Conference, giving local fans more meaningful games at Tiger Field with playoff stakes on the line. The move should boost recruiting of college players and add excitement, including a new video board to track standings and promote key series coming to Redding.
5. Whiskeytown Lake looks calm on top but hides a sunken town from the 1800s (wheninyourstate.com) — If you are looking for a nearby escape, Whiskeytown Lake just west of Redding offers clear water, free entry, and ranger-led kayak tours that explore its Gold Rush past and hidden waterfalls. You can swim at Brandy Creek or Oak Bottom beaches, hike to Whiskeytown Falls, or join guided history and gold-panning programs, all within an easy drive from town.
