• Southern California's longest multi-use trail project is more than halfway done — it will cover 110 miles from Huntington Beach to the San Bernardino National Forest (secretlosangeles.com) — Redlands residents now have a new 3.8-mile stretch of the Santa Ana River Trail connecting Waterman Avenue in San Bernardino to California Street in Redlands, creating an 11-mile continuous route. Another phase, planned from California Street toward Mentone starting in 2027, will further expand local options for biking, walking, and commuting along the river corridor.
   

• Beaumont Man to be Sentenced for Beating, Starving Child to Death (mynewsla.com) — Redlands is briefly connected to a tragic Beaumont child-abuse case because the defendant previously worked at a local industrial equipment manufacturer. He has now pleaded guilty to murdering his girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter and is expected to receive 25 years to life, with prosecutors detailing weeks of severe abuse and starvation leading up to the child's 2020 death.
   

• Orange County scores and player stats for Saturday, Aug. 29 (ocregister.com) — Redlands boys water polo notched a 10-4 win over Brea Olinda in the Long Beach Tournament, highlighted in a roundup of Saturday's Orange County high school scores. The report also lists detailed volleyball and water polo results for several other Southern California schools, offering a quick snapshot of weekend prep action.
