REDLANDS, CA — Redlands residents can bring broken household items, damaged clothing and other belongings to a free Repair Café on Saturday, where volunteer fixers will help repair items and keep them out of landfills, the city said.
Skilled volunteers will offer free repairs for a variety of items, including bicycles, clothing, toys, clocks, jewelry, watches, home decor, heirlooms, small appliances and electronics.
The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon at the Flores Senior Center, 111 W. Lugonia Avenue in Redlands.
Organizers say the event promotes sustainability by encouraging residents to repair and reuse belongings rather than throw them away and purchase replacements.
Repair Café events are held in Redlands four times a year, in January, April, July and October. The April event coincides with the annual Day of Climate Action and Redlands Earth Day activities.
The event is hosted by Accelerate Neighborhood Climate Action Redlands and sponsored by Ace Hardware.
Residents are encouraged to preregister to select a drop-off time of 9 a.m., 10 a.m., or 11 a.m. Walk-ins also will be accepted until 11 a.m., as space allows, the city said
The city cautioned that some repairs may take longer than others and asked attendees to be patient with the all-volunteer team.
