CSUSB’s info technology department appoints new director

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Felix Zuniga has been selected director of project management and assessment in the Information Technology Services department at Cal State San Bernardino, said Sam Sudhakar, vice president of the division of information technology. Zuniga has served as IT consultant on campus since 2004.

In his new role, Zuniga will establish and lead the project management office and collaborate with leaders and staff in ITS and across the university to provide leadership, coordination, reporting, and assessment of all ITS projects at CSUSB, Sudhakar said. Zuniga will begin his new role on Tuesday, July 1.

“I feel tremendously fortunate to have the opportunity to grow with CSUSB,” said Zuniga. “Having been a student, graduate, alumni and now a part of the leadership is very rewarding. I look forward to helping CSUSB reach the next level.”

Zuniga has more than 10 years of progressive technology experience in higher education at CSUSB and has successfully managed multiple technology projects. As an IT consultant on campus, he has played critical roles on collaborative teams with implementation of email migration, the automated helpdesk ticket system, and most recently assisted with the restructuring of the technology support center.

An alumnus of CSUSB multiple times, Zuniga holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with dual majors in information management and accounting; and an M.B.A. with an emphasis in information management and entrepreneurship. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in educational leadership at CSUSB.

“While studying at CSUSB, we often heard the motto ‘Come Here, Go Anywhere.’ I am glad to have the opportunity to serve here at my home,” he said.

In 2007, Zuniga’s business savvy as an entrepreneur helped him launch a small business venture, Armada Business Services, in the independent transportation industry.

As chair of the CSUSB Alumni Association’s Hispanic Alumni board, Zuniga has led efforts in outreach to the community, growing the chapter’s membership and creating partnerships that support current students and alumni.

The San Bernardino resident has actively served on a variety of campus committees and task forces. As past president and active member of CSUSB’s Association of Latino Faculty, Staff and Students, he was instrumental in the creation of the Madrina/Padrino Mentor Program, which mentors first-generation college students who need assistance navigating the college experience.

Zuniga has served as a member and officer of numerous external organizations, including the League of United Latin American Citizens, Inland Empire Future Leaders and Kiwanis of San Bernardino.

Because of his initiative and efforts at problem solving, he has also earned a number of awards including the USDA Kika de la Garza Fellow award in 2010; state Assembly Member Amina Carter’s “30 Under 30” award in 2009; the CSUSB’s Distinguished Employee Service Award in 2009; and the President’s Team Achievement Award two years in a row.
