Learn to protect your personal information at Oct. 16 CSUSB presentation

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Safeguarding your private personal information may be a thing of the past, thanks to today’s social networks. Because of the numerous online platforms where people share comments, photos and other tidbits about their daily lives, their personal information, and that of their families and friends, may also be circulating on the Internet. 

But a presentation led by Cal State San Bernardino’s information security officer, Javier Torner, will explore ways to prevent personal information from being used without one’s consent. Attendees will learn how to protect their privacy and how to minimize the risk of becoming a victim of identity theft. 

The free presentation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 16, from noon to 1 p.m. in CSUSB’s John M. Pfau Library, PL 4005 on the fourth floor. 

Torner, a professor of physics with more than 25 years of teaching and working with data communication networks and computer systems, coordinates and oversees the management of the university’s telecommunications network, information security initiatives and enterprise applications. 

Torner holds several professional certifications from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association and is currently the president for the Information System Security Association Inland Empire Chapter.
