Loma Linda Man Killed In Fiery Interstate 10 Crash

REDLANDS, CA — Details were released Monday about a fiery multi-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 10 that killed a 28-year-old Loma Linda man and injured four other people.

The California Highway Patrol and the Redlands Fire Department responded to the crash near Mountain View Avenue, shortly after 9:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24.

The first responders found a vehicle completely engulfed in flames. Hugo Macias Aguilar, the driver of that vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office.

Four occupants from two other vehicles involved in the collision were treated for minor injuries. Paramedics transported one of those individuals to a local hospital for further evaluation, according to the Redlands Fire Department.

The California Highway Patrol shut down all but one westbound lane of Interstate 10 while firefighters extinguished the blaze and provided medical care. The lane closures remained in effect for approximately three hours while CHP officers investigated the cause of the crash, which remains under investigation.

Engine companies from the Loma Linda Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
