Man Robbed 2 Redlands Banks In 'Trick or Treat' Style, Jury Finds
Prosecutors say the man had clerks fill up a peach-colored pillowcase with money in the hold-ups.

REDLANDS, CA — A Banning man has been convicted of robbing two banks in Redlands nearly five years ago, prosecutors announced Monday. Jason Deiner, 38, is now facing 25 years to life in prison when he is sentenced next month.
A jury found Deiner guilty of five counts of Second Degree Robbery, one count of Second Degree Burglary, one count of Second Degree Commercial Burglary, and one count of Evading an Officer, Willful Disregard, according to the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office. That verdict came in on May 8, and on May 17, the court verified two prior strikes on his record.
Clad in a black hat, black jacket, blue jeans, white latex gloves and work boots — and with a bandana over his face — Deiner walked into the Security Bank in Redlands in December 2013 and robbed the location, according to Deputy District Attorney Kristofer Baughman.

"The defendant was holding a black handgun and a peach-colored pillow case as he approached a bank employee, demanding money," Baughman said in a news release. "The employee then went to various tellers to get cash to put in the pillowcase."
Then, in January 2014, Deiner robbed the SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union in nearby Rancho Cucamonga — wearing the same getup and using the same distinct pillow case and weapon, prosecutors said.

"After the second robbery, officers with the Ontario Police Department located the suspect's vehicle," the DA's office said. "Deiner attempted to evade the officers, but he was quickly apprehended. There was a pillow case inside the vehicle containing the $1,100 stolen from the bank and a black BB gun."
