Middle and High School Girls Participate In Underwater Robotics STEM Camp!

Not a Girl Scout? Not a problem! STEM campsΒ open to the public. Contact Kli@gssgc.org for more information. Robotics Camp begins July 7th so register ASAP! Only $45 per girl for the entire week!

Eleven middle and high school students had the opportunity to experienceΒ underwater roboticsΒ through a week long day camp Β at the Girl Scouts of San GorgonioΒ Council in Redlands.Β Β This was the first ever robotics camp offered through the CouncilΒ and it was a big success.

The campΒ offered a very interactive environment where the girlsΒ were able to build their remotely operated vehicles (ROVs)Β with theirΒ own two hands, just like a real engineer! During the camp, girlsΒ learned how to solder, cut PVC pipes, strip wire, use a drill, waterproof a motor, identify between negatively and positively charged wires, and more.Β

"I have never done most of these things before so it was pretty cool to use this stuff in action to make our ROV come to life," said Melanie, a high school student andΒ Girl Scout.

At the end of the week-long day camp, the three teams competed with their ROV's on aΒ competition day.Β

Melanie said, "This was the day where we all had the opportunity to race our ROVs’ through an obstacle course and compete to see how many objects we could pick up in the water. My group, H2O, were the winners of the obstacle course race and we all got candy!"

Parents were invited toΒ view the awesome creations and watch their daughtersΒ receive special recognition awards andΒ certificates of completion.

Thank you to Southern California Edison, The Science Experience and San Bernardino Community College District for supporting our girls!
