‘Parenting the Young Child’ courses offered by CSUSB’s CUIDAR Project at new locations

Sponsored by the CSUSB Institute of Child Development and Family Relations, three staggered 12-week sessions will be offered at three new locations in San Bernardino – two in English and one in Spanish.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. -- There are instruction manuals to assemble a baby crib and guidebooks about what to expect when expecting a baby, but there are no fail-safe, step-by-step instruction manuals to tell you how to raise a child.

Now Project CUIDAR at Cal State San Bernardino will offer several parent education classes this fall that will assist parents to create their own parenting manual. The courses are free and open to the public.

The second course in English this fall will be offered from Oct. 29-Dec. 12, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 5-7:30 p.m., at Teddy Bear Tymes Child Care Center, 900 Gilbert St., Building 8, in San Bernardino.

The courses are primarily geared for parents or caregivers of young children through 5 years old, and will offer new parenting tools to help build stronger life-long bonds. A free child enrichment group for children 3-5 years old and structured childcare for children 6-12 years old will be available while caregivers attend the parenting class. All locations include a light meal for parents and children.

The parenting classes are based on the most current research on positive child guidance, child development, attachment and neurodevelopment. Parents will learn effective positive child guidance strategies that will also support their children’s long-term development.

Project CUIDAR is a First 5-funded project that has been providing parent education classes to the San Bernardino County community since 2004.

Space is limited. To RSVP or to obtain additional information for a specific class, call CSUSB’s Project CUIDAR at (909) 537-5945 or email Laura Gonzalez-Rivera at lgonzale@csusb.edu.
