Parents Arrested After Son Brings Loaded Gun To Redlands School

REDLANDS, CA — Police arrested a 12-year-old student and his parents after he brought a loaded gun and ammunition to his Redlands middle school on Thursday prompting a lockdown and search, officials said.

Police responded to Moore Middle School around 1 p.m. when the school was alerted that a student was in possession of a bullet, according to the Redlands Police Department.

School administrators found the boy with a loaded gun in his backpack, detained him and called the police.

The school was locked down for several hours while police searched the campus.

Officers and school officials determined the boy brought the loaded gun to school "to show it off," officials said.

No threats were made toward school, students, or staff, officials said.

The student was arrested for possession of a gun on campus, and his parents were arrested for improper storage of a firearm.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing.

Redlands Unified School District will hold a public meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the school’s multipurpose room with school officials and police to answer questions and concerns from parents.
