Known as the Ralph M. Brown Act, the law governs most of California’s meetings and is meant to ensure public access. Among the provisions is that meetings be publicly noticed 72 hours or more before they are held. Special meetings can be noticed 24 hours before their scheduled time.
Tonight's meeting was rescheduled to a special meeting for tomorrow, said Carl Baker, spokesman for the city.
