Redlands Police Chief, Mark Garcia,Β Β confirmed that the Redlands Police Department acquired Β a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP)Β Β Vehicle. Β Are there landΒ mines in Redlands?Β Β Why are we militarizing the Redlands Police Department? Β Is this acquisitionΒ a fascist move in our city? Β
Chief Garcia confirmed that this MRAP vehicleΒ acquisition was never discussed atΒ Redlands City Council. Β Why wouldΒ Β the Redlands PD want toΒ Β acquire one of these MRAP vehicles that are designed for "asymmetric warfare." Β Β
In an email, Β Chief Garcia describes the MRAPΒ vehicle as a "ballistic capable vehicle." Β The Redlands Police Department plans to use this vehicle as a "tactical vehicle" when needed. Β What does this all imply? Β
Can Redlands evenΒ afford to own this metalΒ mine resistantΒ Β ambush protectant beast?Β Β These MRAPs are reportedΒ to get 3 miles to the gallon. Β One site stated that MRAP tires alone cost $925 with tire liners in excess ofΒ $700. Β Β
The city should sell the MRAP vehicleΒ for scrap metal and keep the cash. Β Β
