Security Beefed Up for Popular Redlands Races
In light of the bombings in Boston, Redlands is adding security for their popular annual race.
The bombings at the Boston Marathon continue to be felt across the country including in Redlands, which is preparing to welcome runners from around the region for its annual Run Through Redlands.
The city and its police department announced this morning they would beef up security for the run.
“Police will not release information on specific security tactics for the Sunday, April 21 event, which typically brings several thousand runners to the streets of Redlands for sanctioned 5K, 10K and half-marathon events,” said Carl Baker, public information officer for Redlands Police. He would only say, “There will be an additional police presence for the event.”

Police ask participants and spectators not to leave backpacks, bags or other unattended items along the event route. Suspicious items left unattended may be confiscated or destroyed, Baker said.
Police also ask anyone who observes any suspicious behavior before or during the event to report it immediately to officers or Police Dispatch by calling 911, Baker said.
Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Redlands Police Dispatch at (909) 798-7681. Anonymous tips can be submitted by texting 274637 using the keyword “REDTIP.”
