Shaye Taylor in Downtown Redlands: She Plans to Audition for 'The Voice'

Taylor, 18, plans to audition for the NBC vocal competition Aug. 11 in Los Angeles, she told Redlands-Loma Linda Patch after her set Friday night.

Singer-songwriter Shaye Taylor of Yucaipa performed Friday night at Orange and State streets in downtown Redlands.

Taylor, who turned 18 Saturday, plans to audition for NBC's The Voice vocal competition Aug. 11 in Los Angeles, she told Redlands-Loma Linda Patch after her set Friday night.

"If I could spend my life creating and singing music it would be a dream come true," Taylor said. "I have only been in music since I was 14 but it has been an awesome healer for me!!! As a child adopted out of social services I struggled with who I was and Music gave me what I was looking for!! thank God for this special gift and all the people who have supported me in my dream!! I have a lot to learn but it is such an amazing adventure!!"

According to NBC, The Voice format features three stages of competition: the blind audition, a battle phase, and live performance shows.

Celebrity musician coaches on The Voice include Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, with Carson Daly as host, according to NBC. Christina Milian is social media correspondent.

Taylor said she will receive her audition pass on Aug. 4. In the meantime, she is planning to be at the Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S. Figueroa St., on Saturday Aug. 11.
