Single-Engine Plane Crashes In San Bernardino: UPDATE

HIGHLAND, CA: A single-engine plane crashed into a vacant field in the area of Ninth Street and Lankershim Avenue Friday afternoon, according to sheriff's officials. San Bernardino County Sheriff's officials and Cal Fire have responded to the scene.

According to Federal Aviation Administration spokesperson Ian Gregor, neither of the two people on board was injured.

"A single-engine Antonov AN-2 experienced engine failure on approach to San Bernardino International Airport," Gregor told Patch. "The tail number is N2AN."

Gregor says the damage to the aircraft is unknown at this time and the FAA is investigating.

According to the San Bernardino City Unified School District Twitter feed, students participating in the afternoon program at nearby Lankershim Elementary are being released to parents as a result of the crash. School officials reported via social media that the crash knocked the phone lines and power out. As of 1:50 p.m., officials said the power had been restored.

The district is reporting that all students are fine. A temporary phone number has been set up for parents to call: 909-862-1899.
