Redlands's Royal Falconer to Open Early for World Cup

The Royal Falconer in Redlands opens early to watch Sunday's Women's World Cup quarterfinal against Brazil. The British pub will open again for Wednesday's 8 a.m. game against France.

Even an 8 a.m. start time won't stop fans of soccer from gathering to watch an important game at their favorite watering hole.

So Sunday morning at The Royal Falconer in Redlands was no exception as the United States played Brazil in the quarterfinals of the Women's World Cup.

And when Abby Wambach tied the game in dramatic fashion in stoppage time of overtime, then won the game in a penalty kick shootout, the Falconer was hopping, almost literally.

“So far it’s been great,” Hammer said. “There has not been a whole lot of interest in the past, but it’s so great to see.”

With the win today, on the 12th anniversary of their penalty kick victory over China at the Rose Bowl, the US advances to Wednesday's semifinal game against France. Sweden and Japan will play in the other semifinal at 11:45 a.m.

The Royal Falconer will be open again at 8 a.m. Wednesday, serving breakfast for those who want to see the game. The Falconer is at 106 Orange St. in Redlands.
