13-Year-Old Redondo Beach Girl Struck, Killed By Bus
Breaking: She was riding a bike with her friend when the accident happened.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — The 13-year-old girl who was killed when she was hit by a bus while riding her bicycle in Redondo Beach was identified Saturday by authorities. She was Ciara Smith of Redondo Beach, accoding to county coroner's officials. Witnesses at the scene said the girl was a student at Parras Middle School in Redondo Beach.
The crash police described as a "tragic accident" occurred at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Knob Hill Avenue, the Redondo Beach Police Department reported. The girl was riding her bicycle with a friend when, for an unknown reason, she traveled into the roadway on Pacific Coast Highway and was struck by the bus, Redondo Beach police Lt. Shawn Freeman told reporters at the scene. The girl's friend was not hurt. Freeman said there was nothing to suggest the bus driver had done anything criminal.
