HAWTHORNE, CA — A woman and a child remained hospitalized in critical condition Friday after an apparent attack inside a Hawthorne home, while a person of interest was arrested at the scene on unrelated allegations, authorities said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide detectives responded around 3:20 p.m. Thursday to the 4000 block of 139th Street, near Jim Thorpe Park and Prairie Avenue, to assist Hawthorne police with their investigation. The circumstances surrounding the apparent attack remain under investigation. Sheriff's officials said investigators do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.
