Beaches Temporarily Closed Due To Lightning In Los Angeles County

The LA County Lifeguards closed beaches from Cabrillo through Torrance and Manhattan Beach Wednesday as a storm traveled northwest.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — The Los Angeles County Lifeguards temporarily closed beaches in LA County on Wednesday due to lightning storms.

Beaches from Cabrillo through Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach were closed for about two hours as the storm cell passed. This includes Long Beach and Palos Verdes as the storm was predicted to continue to move northwest according to the National Weather Service.

LACo Lifeguards reopened the beaches at 11:35 a.m. according to a statement from Twitter.

"LACo Lifeguards will continue to monitor the current weather conditions and will remain in close contact with NWS Los Angeles for further weather updates," LACo Lifeguards said.

The National Weather Service forecasted a 20 percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the day and into the night followed by cloudy conditions. A special weather statement was issued for East LA, Torrance and Long Beach Wednesday morning warning residents about 40 mph winds and pea-sized hail.
