1 Killed, 8 Hurt In PCH Pileup

Six cars were involved in a deadly pileup on Pacific Coast Highway in Redondo Beach.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — One person was killed and at least seven other people were injured Wednesday in a six-vehicle collision at a Redondo Beach intersection.

The crash was reported about 2:50 p.m. at the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Torrance Boulevard, according to Redondo Beach Police Department Lt. Mario Fizulich.

A vehicle that was westbound on Torrance Boulevard ran a red light and collided with several northbound and southbound vehicles, Fizulich said.

"In all, six vehicles were involved in the traffic accident," Fizulich said. "As a result of the collision, eight people were transported to local hospitals for their injuries."

One person was killed, Fizulich said. It was unclear if that person was counted among or in addition to the eight injuries originally announced.

The extent of the surviving patients' injuries were not immediately available.
The intersection was closed following the crash, which remained under investigation.
