Fundraiser Underway For Child With Aggressive Terminal Cancer

The 7-year-old was recently sworn in as an honorary police officer in Torrance, following in his father's footsteps.

REDONDO BEACH, CA – A fundraiser is underway to raise $100,000 for the family of a 7-year-old Torrance boy who suffers from a terminal and very aggressive form of cancer. Drake Walker was diagnosed Aug. 15 with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, an aggressive and inoperable cancerous tumor at the base of his brain stem.

The boy's dream to be a police officer, like his father, Jim, came true Tuesday night as he was sworn in by Chief Eve Irvine at Torrance City Hall with nearly 100 members of the city's police force in attendance. His badge, which reads "Honorary Officer" was pinned on by his father, a sergeant with the department.

The goal of the fundraiser is to "bless them in this monetary way to ease even a tiny bit of burden they might face along their journey and memories of fun that will last forever," said GoFundMe's Melissa Serrano.
All funds raised will go directly to the family.
