REDONDO BEACH, CA — A fundraiser is underway for a new dad who was diagnosed with brain cancer. Chase Curry, a South Bay resident and Redondo Union High School alumni, was diagnosed with a "walnut-sized mass in his right frontal lobe" on March 21, the GoFundMe said.

Curry was experiencing nausea, vomiting and headaches intermittently since Thanksgiving before getting diagnosed with cancer. When these symptoms were accompanied by a migraine, his wife Lindsay took him to the emergency room where they did a CT scan and found the tumor, fundraiser organizer Julie Fletcher wrote.

Curry had surgery on March 25 and doctors were able to remove the tumor. However, the couple then received the news that his tumor is a Stage 4 Glioblastoma — an aggressive type of cancer that occurs in the brain or spinal cord, according to Mayo Clinic.

"The Curry’s have a long battle ahead of them, trying to fight the aggressive cancer that will require chemotherapy and radiation," Fletcher wrote.

Chase and Lindsay are warm, positive and giving teachers and friends, the fundraiser said. They are also parents to a beautiful one-year-old Kayla. The community's love, support and prayers are appreciated and welcomed as the Curry family moves forward in this difficult journey, Fletcher wrote.

The GoFundMe has raised $39,893 of its $50,000 goal thus far.

"The silver lining of my health scare is seeing all the love and support from friends and family. Thank you so much for your kind words, well wishes, and generosity," Curry said in a fundraiser update. "When I feel particularly down, I read through the comments and the names of those who donated and it helps to lift my spirits. Thank you so much."
