Large Naked Man Tries to Ditch Cops in the Ocean, Fights Lifeguard Rescue Efforts

A 300 pound naked man led police on a beach chase in Redondo and repeatedly resisted lifesavers' efforts to save him.

A naked man repeatedly resisted lifesavers’ efforts to save him after he ran into the Pacific Ocean in Redondo Beach tonight to avoid a police pursuit.

Broadcast footage showed the large, unclothed man repeatedly refusing to be pulled from the water into a lifeguard vessel.

A broadcast report said the man had fled into the water after being chased on foot by Redondo Beach Police Department officers.

A Redondo Beach police dispatcher said no information was available as to why the suspect was being pursued.

Although a lifeguard was able to place a lifesaving ring around the suspect, the man, said to weigh in the vicinity of 300 pounds, fought efforts to pull him aboard the lifeguard boat.

The suspect was eventually placed on a surfboard and pulled to shore about 10:40 p.m., where he was detained by uniformed officers.

The incident began around 10:05 p.m., according to broadcast reports.
