Man Killed On Weekend 405 Freeway Crash Near LAX ID'd

He was identified as Fabian De La Cruz, 24, of Carson, according to the coroner's office.

LENNOX, CA - A 24-year-old motorist killed in a traffic crash on the San Diego (405) Freeway near LAX was publicly identified Monday.

He was Fabian De La Cruz, of Carson, according to the coroner's office.

The crash on the northbound 405 Freeway, north of Century Boulevard, was at 3:05 a.m. Saturday, the California Highway Patrol reported

De La Cruz was driving a 2017 Mazda, which was disabled in traffic lanes. His car was rear-ended by a 2017 Ford Fusion driven by a 32-year-old man from Los Angeles, suspected of driving under the alcohol or drugs.

De La Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene. The 32-year-old man, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested.

A little over a half an hour later, on the southbound 405 in the same area, a 34-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of triggering a three- vehicle crash where one person suffered major injuries. The 34-year-old man escaped with minor injuries.

The motorist, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry allegedly under the influence of alcohol or drugs, rear ended a 1996 Nissan Sentra that had slowed due to the previous crash. Paramedics rushed a female passenger to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center suffering from a brain injury and a fractured hip, according to the CHP.
