Man in Redondo Beach Police Shooting Identified

The man allegedly attempted to strike an officer with his car following a chase that prompted the shooting, police said.

REDONDO BEACH, CA - The driver shot at least once during a police chase remained hospitalized Sunday following a chase from Redondo Beach to San Pedro.

Thomas Dallaire, 36, of Redondo Beach, who was listed in stable condition an area hospital, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, according to Officer Mike Lopez of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.

Although the officer-involved shooting and the assault with a deadly weapon charge involved Redondo Beach police officers, they happened in Los Angeles. Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division will handle the investigation, Lopez said.

Redondo Beach police officers initiated a pursuit that led to the crash and shooting in San Pedro at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, said Redondo Beach police Lt. Joe Hoffman. No officers were injured.

The crash occurred near Gaffey Street and Summerland Avenue, where a Redondo Beach police officer got out of his patrol car to approach Dallaire.

The suspect allegedly put his vehicle in reverse in an attempt to strike the officer, Lopez said.

It was also at this location is where the officer-involved shooting occurred. Still, according to Lopez, the suspect was able to drive away and the pursuit ended in the area of 17th and Leland streets, where the suspect's vehicle became disabled.
