Man Stabbed Near South Bay Galleria Parking Lot, Police Say

A 34-year-old Lawndale man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A man was stabbed Sunday near the South Bay Galleria parking lot and a suspect was arrested in connection with the assault, according to the Redondo Beach Police Department.

The victim was walking in the 1600 block of Kingsdale Avenue about 1:30 p.m. Sunday when a suspect stabbed him with a knife, police said.

The suspect then ran eastbound across the mall parking lot, prompting a police search in the area. Officers later located the suspect in the 4000 block of 175th Street, in Torrance. He was taken into custody without incident.

Matthew Robert Ihrig, 34, of Lawndale, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $37K.

Officers responded to the victim until Redondo Beach paramedics arrived, police said. He was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Investigators did not release details of the victim's injuries.

It's unclear what prompted the attack.
