Massive Power Outage Hits Long Beach

Redondo Beach residents are among the 25,000 Edison customers who lost power Friday morning.

Electricity service was interrupted today to more than 25,000 customers around Los Angeles County, with weather conditions responsible for many of the problems, authorities said.

About 16,800 Southern California Edison customers were without power as of 7:30 a.m., according to the SCE website.

Weather conditions were responsible for many outages, including in: Alhambra, where about 4,200 customers lost power; Monterey Park, where 1,251 customers lost power; Redondo Beach, where 1,047 lost power; Hawthorne, where 930 customers lost power; Torrance, where 179 customers lost power; Santa Monica, where 48 customers lost power, and Long Beach, where 97 customers lost power.

In the city of Los Angeles, about 9,000 customers were without power in various areas as of about 7:30 a.m., the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported.
