Motorcyclist Dies, Passenger Hurt In Redondo Beach Freeway Crash

The crash occurred about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday on the Inglewood Avenue onramp to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, the CHP said.

REDONDO BEACH, CA -- A motorcyclist was killed when he crashed on freeway onramp in Redondo Beach and his female passenger was injured, authorities said Thursday.

The crash occurred about 1:20 p.m. Wednesday on the Inglewood Avenue onramp to the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Harley-Davidson motorcycle, driven by a 46-year-old Redondo Beach man, was in the carpool lane when it crashed into a raised curb and metal guardrail, ejecting the biker and his 36-year-old female passenger, also from Redondo Beach, the CHP reported.

A passing motorist stopped and began to provide medical aid to the badly injured man before emergency medical personnel arrived on scene. The man was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital, where he died, the CHP reported. His name was withheld, pending family notification.

The woman was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in unknown condition. The cause of the crash was under investigation.
