A man was killed following a short police pursuit and failed efforts to stop him, authorities said.

TORRANCE, CA – The on-scene investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Torrance finished up Saturday, after a man was killed following a short police pursuit and failed attempts to stop him, authorities said. The area of the 2900 block of Sepulveda Boulevard was reopened at 4:18 p.m. following a 14-hour on-scene investigation, according to Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris.

The drama began at 2:08 a.m. in the area of Hawthorne Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway, Harris said.

Torrance officers tried to pull over an alleged reckless driver in a green Ford Ranger, Harris said. The driver refused to pull over and a short chase began. Officers tried using the Precision Intervention Technique or PIT maneuver to stop him.
