Opera Workshop "Goin' Old School" to Showcase Vocal Talent at El Camino College on December 10th for 6:00PM and 8:00PM

Opera Workshop director and award-winning soprano Victoria Muto will lead El Camino College opera students in a fall performance .

Opera Workshop director and award-winning soprano Victoria Muto will lead El Camino College opera students in a fall performance scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. December 10 in the Campus Theatre.

The Opera Workshop is designed to spotlight the work of outstanding vocal students, who auditioned to be in the class. The program will feature the “old school” song stylings and works by: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Mozart, Flaherty & Ahrens, Gilbert & Sullivan, Bizet, Bernstein & Sondheim, Puccini, and Bock & Harnick.

Founded in 2004 by the late Hedley Nosworthy, longtime ECC music professor, the Opera Workshop is intended to teach aspiring opera singers the skills necessary to move, act, and sing at the same time while performing on stage. Students learn to master the ability to sing complex operatic works in English Italian, French, and German.

Muto, an ECC music instructor who has performed with the Tri-Cities Opera in New York, is an accomplished and celebrated name in the opera community. She has won various honors, including the McAllister Awards, the Liederkranz Competition, and the Metropolitan Opera. Along with winning recognition from prestigious opera organizations, she has captured audiences in leading roles with Richard Leech and Deborah Voight.

Tickets for the workshop are $10 each and may be purchased online at www.centerforthearts.org , by phone at 310-329-5345 or toll-free at 800-832-ARTS. The Ticket Office is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Campus parking is $3. The El Camino College Campus Theatre is located at 16007 Crenshaw Boulevard, Torrance.
