"Outside the Basket" wacky woven art at Harmony Works

“Outside the Basket” the wacky woven art of Judy Robelotto and Fern Tompkins Benson Harmony Works, an eclectic gallery and gift shop in the Riviera Village of South Redondo Beach is proud to feature the whimsical creations of two local fiber artists, Judy Robelotto and Fern Benson. Meet the artists on Saturday June 1 from 5-8 p.m. The showing will be up throughout June. Using mostly found objects in their work, the artists incorporate knotting and twining, coiling and other weaving techniques to create whimsical and just as often serious sculpture. The pieces show the interaction between natural and handmade. Both women are active in a variety of basketry guilds and take their work quite seriously, even in it’s whimsy!
