Police Blotter: April 20-25

No Signals: At about 4 p.m. on Friday, April 23, the traffic signals at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Inglewood Avenue defaulted to the flashing mode for all directions of travel creating significant traffic congestion for the evening business commute. Officers provided traffic control until 7:30 p.m. The traffic signals were temporarily repaired by the Los Angeles County Traffic Signal Maintenance.   

DUI Rear-Ending: On Saturday, April 24 at about 9 p.m., a Redondo Beach Police officer and an officer trainee were rear-ended by a northbound vehicle in the 200 block of S. Prospect Avenue when they were completing a call for service in a parked police car. Both officers suffered moderate injuries and a 7-year-old child in other vehicle was also injured. The female driver of the vehicle was evaluated for suspicion of alcohol intoxication and was subsequently arrested for felony DUI. The officers were treated for their injuries at Torrance Memorial Hospital and released later that evening. Torrance Police Department handled the collision and DUI investigations.   

Fluctuating Voltage: On Sunday, April 25 at about 10:20 a.m., the traffic signals at the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Inglewood Avenue defaulted to the flashing mode for all directions of travel for the second time in three days for approximately three hours. The Los Angeles County Traffic Signal Maintenance worked with Southern California Edison to correct a fluctuating voltage condition that caused the persistent problem with the traffic signals.
