Police Blotter: May 24-30

Missing Third Row: Officers responded to two separate vehicle burglary incidents on the 2600 block of Fisk Lane and 2700 block of Spreckles Lane on  May 24. Unknown suspects forced entry into a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe and a 2007 GMC Yukon XL and removed the third row passenger seats from each vehicle.

NFL Player Arrested: Officers stopped a vehicle for speeding within a school zone near Redondo Union High School May 24. The driver was San Diego Chargers safety Kevin Ellison. Officers conducted a consensual search of Ellison's vehicle and found approximately 100 tablets of Vicodin. Ellison was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance.

Off-Duty Officer Goes Wild: Officers received reports of a mentally unstable person on the Redondo Beach Pier on May 24. The suspect, who had been drinking and arguing with his fiancée, fired one shot but nobody was injured. The fiancée grabbed the gun from the suspect and threw it, and nearby citizens and fishermen recovered and unloaded it. Arriving officers took possession of the weapon and arrested the man on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect was an off-duty Los Angeles County deputy sheriff. The fiancée was also arrested for being under the influence of alcohol.

Failed Attempt: Officers responded to a report of a male suspect "casing" a residence in the 1900 block of Vanderbilt Lane on May 25. The suspect rang the doorbell twice. The same suspect was later seen walking on the side of the residence looking in the windows and in the backyard. An arriving sergeant detained the suspect as he walked away from the residence. After conducting an investigation and interviewing the resident, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of attempted residential burglary.

Burglar Still at Large: A suspect entered a residence through an unlocked front door May 26 in the 2200 block of Mathews Avenue. A resident heard the suspect downstairs and went to investigate. The suspect ran from the residence taking a laptop computer. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

Driving Under Influence: Witnesses reported that a vehicle speeding on the 1700 block of Aviation Boulevard lost control, crashed and rolled over May 26. Officers found the vehicle upside down in the Rite Aid parking lot, and there was a debris trail extending from it to Aviation Boulevard. The driver and a passenger were detained. The driver was arrested after it was determined that he was driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Open House: Unknown suspect(s) pried open a rear patio sliding door and removed a television from a residence on the 2800 block of May Avenue on May 27. The residence was listed for sale and was being shown by real estate agents to prospective buyers by appointment only.

Lomita Burglary and Vandalism: L.A. County Sheriff's deputies contacted Redondo Beach officers May 28 to report a burglary and vandalism that occurred in Lomita. The deputies provided a name of the suspect, and a Redondo Beach officer recognized the suspect's name and went to his residence on Curtis Avenue where he was arrested. The Lomita deputies provided a witness who identified the suspect and took custody of the suspect.

Pellet Gun Shooting: A cab driver was heading north on Ford Avenue on May 29 when the rear window of his vehicle shattered. The driver got out of his taxi and saw two suspects running into a nearby residence from a balcony. Officers arrived on scene and were able to detain the suspects. The officers determined that the window was shattered by a pellet gun. They recovered a pump action pellet rifle from the balcony. The pair were arrested on suspicion of violating a vehicle code section that prohibits throwing or propelling objects at a moving vehicle.

Threatening With 19-Inch Machete: Officers responded to a call May 29 that a man was brandishing a knife on Broadway and Emerald streets. An officer located the suspect driving a vehicle away from the location and detained him. Officers learned that the suspect had made verbal threats to the victim while displaying a 19-inch machete in a threatening manner. The suspect was taken into custody for making terrorist threats and for having an outstanding narcotics warrant.

Vehicle Burglary: Officers received a report of several suspects trying the door handles of parked vehicles in the 100 block of South Catalina Avenue. Officers detained three suspects and found that two nearby vehicles had been ransacked. The owners of the vehicles confirmed that they had been ransacked and were locked prior to entry. The three suspects were arrested on  suspicion of vehicle burglary.
