Police Blotter: One Swiped Laptop and a Stolen Car

Police recovered pilfered goods  from two separate incidents during the week ended Sept. 12, and aided a man who fell off his bicycle while swerving to avoid a pedestrian on the bike path. 

Craigslist sale gone wrong

A proposed laptop sale went horribly awry on the morning of Sept. 8 at Palos Verdes Boulevard and South Prospect Avenue. The victims contacted the suspect through Craigslist, and agreed to meet on the street to conduct the sale. When the suspect arrived and pretended to have a gun, the victims gave the suspect the computer. After the suspect fled in a vehicle the victims called the police. A short time later, officers spotted the vehicle on 190^th Street, approaching Hawthorne Boulevard. The computer was recovered and the suspect booked for robbery. No gun was located.

Bicyclist versus pedestrian

On the morning of Sept. 10, officers responded to a call of an injured person on the 1400 block of the Esplanade. They found a 73-year-old male on the ground with head injuries. Apparently he had been riding his bicycle south on the Esplanade when a pedestrian on the bicycle path got in his way. He swerved and lost control, falling to the ground. He was unconscious and transported to Harbor General Hospital for treatment.

Rally goes off without incident

On Friday evening, the South Bay Parkland Conservancy conducted a public demonstration against the AES power plant from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. at Herondo Street. Approximately 30-40 protesters demonstrated. No significant events occurred as a result of the rally.

Saturday morning burglary

A victim was awakened by noise but thought it was coming from a roommate on the 900 block of North Prospect Avenue. The victim discovered otherwise upon going downstairs, and called the police. Keys and a vehicle had been stolen. Officers recovered the vehicle the next night on the 600 block of Agate Street.
