RBUSD Parent Letter Regarding Covid-19
"While the risk of transmission remains low, we continue to work with the following agencies to gather information and guidance."
Dear Parents/Guardians:
There has been an enormous amount of press surrounding the recent spread of the coronavirus and we want to thank our learning community for your continued trust in our ability to ensure the safety of our students, who are our number one priority. We understand the reasonable concern surrounding the potential spread of the coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. This is obviously uncharted territory for most school districts.

Having said that, I want to clearly state to you that Team RBUSD is focused on facts, science, and securing medical experts to continue to guide us in this process. Conspiracy theories, social media (mis)information, hearsay, and fiction will not guide Team RBUSD.
Here is what we have done thus far:

- Custodial staff increased sanitary measures on all topical surfaces and high traffic areas. Therefore, students, staff, and families will see an increase in attention to these cleaning measures in lieu of more traditional cleaning practices. Other staff and administration may be seen assisting in these areas as well.
- Teachers and site staff continue to remind students to keep hands away from mouth/face and wash hands, both at school and at home, more frequently and to prevent potential contamination.
- Staff and students are reminded to stay home if they experience symptoms of illness and/or fever and to remain home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours. In addition, we are asking everyone to refrain from sharing personal items.
While the risk of transmission remains low, we continue to work with the following agencies to gather information and guidance. This is the best, most comprehensive information regarding this virus:
- Los Angeles County Department of Public Health
- Los Angeles County Office of Education
- California Department of Public Health
- California Department of Education
- U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Beach Cities Health District
Team RBUSD is prepared in the event that we are directed to consider a contingency plan that may include an alternative method for the delivery of instruction. This is absolutely not necessary or an option at this time. Nevertheless, we have a contingency plan that is mindful that there is no “one size fits all” approach. We must remain agile as an organization. If this were to occur, you will be notified immediately.
The Board of Education and I remind you that Team RBUSD is comprised of incredibly caring, intelligent, confident, and humble staff members. This includes teachers, support staff, and management. We will do whatever it takes to protect and care for (y)our students. We will keep you apprised should something change.
Sincerely,
Steven E. Keller, Ed.D.
Proud Superintendent of Schools
