Redondo Beach Crime Blotter: 15 Stolen Guitars, Grand Theft ATV

The crime blotter covers incidents in Redondo Beach from May 12 to 18.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — The following is the most recent Redondo Beach Police Department crime blotter.

Commercial Burglary

  • May 5, 2023 – 8:55 p.m. to 8:57 p.m. – 1400 block of Hawthorne Boulevard – According to RBPD, a suspect in a light-colored convertible car got into a locked storage unit and took two amplifiers and 15 guitars.
  • May 8-9, 2023 – 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. – 200 block of North Harbor Drive – According to RBPD, numerous items were stolen from a business because the back door of the building was propped open with a blue cooler. Some of the things that were stolen include 52 sweatshirts and other clothing items, A GoPro Hero 9, four surfboards, Beach Life merchandise, and packages and signed albums from musical artists such as Noah Cyrus, Gwen Stefani and Wilco.

Residential Burglary

  • May 13-14, 2023 - 4:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. - 200 block of South Juanita Avenue - A Jansport backpack, Apple AirPod headphones, a t-shirt and cash were taken from a Toyota Prius parked inside a garage, RBPD said.
  • May 13, 2023 - 8:09 p.m. to 8:22 p.m. - 400 block of South Lucia Avenue - RBPD said two Hispanic men in their 30s got into the backyard of a home while the residents were inside. According to police, the men tried to break the back door with a tool but only managed to shatter one pane of glass before a resident yelled and the men allegedly fled on foot.

Vehicle Burglary

  • May 13-14, 2023 - 4 p.m. to 11 a.m. - 1600 block of Artesia Boulevard - A Flip wallet, credit card, and gym bag with a pair of shoes inside were stolen from a black 2016 Toyota Prius, RBPD said. Police said the suspect smashed the passenger window to take the property.
  • May 13, 2023 - 10 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. - 1800 block of Hawthorne Boulevard - Costume jewelry and loose change were taken from a white 2015 Hyundai Sonata RBPD said. Officers said the lock on the driver's side door was damaged.
  • May 8, 2023 - 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. - 200 block of Flagler Lane - A Brighton purse, cash and miscellaneous papers and credit cards were taken from a gray 2015 Nissan Rogue, RBPD said. Officers are unsure how the suspect got into the locked car.
  • May 5, 2023 - 11:59 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. - 5300 block of Marine Avenue - A man was arrested after he allegedly kicked the rear window of a Toyota Tundra, RBPD said. Nothing was stolen.

Taken From Vehicle

  • May 14, 2023 - 2:30 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. - 4000 block of Inglewood Avenue - A rear license plate was taken off of a vehicle, RBPD said.
  • May 12-13, 2023 - no specified time - 100 block of North Broadway - A car battery was taken for a gray 2007 Toyota Camry and was replaced with a non-functioning battery, officers said.

Stolen Vehicles

  • May 13-14, 2023 - 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. - 1600 block of Artesia Boulevard - According to RBPD, an unsuccessful attempt was made to steal a silver 2010 Hyundai Tuscon, as evidenced by a punched lock and ignition.
  • May 13, 2023 - 10 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. - 1800 block of Hawthorne Boulevard - According to RBPD, an unsuccessful attempt was made to steal a white 2015 Hyundai Sonata, as evidenced by a punched door lock and ignition.
  • May 13, 2023 - 2:08 p.m. to 2:38 p.m. - 1400 block of Hawthorne Boulevard - A silver 1026 Hyundai Sonata was reported stolen but was later recovered by LAPD on May 14.
  • May 13, 2023 - 1:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. - 1800 block of Hawthorne Boulevard - A black 2012 Hyundai Sonata was reported stolen in Redondo Beach. The car's license plate is 8CZT284.
  • May 8-9, 2023 - 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. - 600 block of South Prospect Avenue - A 2006 Ford F-150 with a blue 2006 Yamaha 700 Raptor ATV in the bed of the truck were reported stolen. The ATV was recovered by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Office on May 12, but the truck is still missing, RBPD said. The suspect was described as a Hispanic man in his 20s who drove a gray Dodge Charger.
  • May 7, 2023 - 12:01 a.m. to 2 p.m. - North Cataline Avenue and Diamond Street - A white 2020 Toyota Rav4 was reported stolen but was later recovered by RBPD on May 8.
