Redondo Beach Doctor Pleads No Contest in Narcotics Case

LOS ANGELES, CA -- A Redondo Beach doctor pleaded no contest Thursday to more than three-dozen counts for selling powerful narcotics to undercover police officers.

Gerard Goryl, 61, faces four years in local custody and three years in a lockdown facility when he is sentenced Jan. 4 in connection with his plea to 38 counts, including illegally prescribing a controlled substance and possession for sale of a controlled substance, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.

Goryl ran a medical clinic in Redondo Beach with his 69-year-old assistant, Wilfred Arvizo Jr., who is awaiting trial on a six charges, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors alleged that the two men sold hydrocodone and Xanax without any type of physical examination or medical need to undercover officers over a two-month period in 2014.
