Redondo Beach Woman Killed In Car Crash, Police Report

A 23-year-old Redondo Beach woman was killed and several others were injured in a car crash early Wednesday in Torrance.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — A 23-year-old woman was killed during a car crash and several others were seriously injured early Wednesday, Torrance police said.

The crash happened at 12:28 a.m. at the intersection of 190th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard, the department said in a news release.

A driver in a 2015 Dodge Charger was heading north on Crenshaw Boulevard and drove over the center median, colliding with a light pole on the intersection's southwest corner.

When officers arrived, they discovered five people in the vehicle with injuries.

Torrance firefighters treated everyone inside the car. One passenger, a 23-year-old Redondo Beach woman, died as a result of her injuries at the crash, police said. Her name was not immediately released.

The driver of the Dodge Charger, a 22-year-old male resident of Torrance, was taken to a hospital for treatment. Two other passengers, a 22-year-old female resident of Compton and a 23-year-old female resident of Torrance, were transported to a hospital with significant injuries.

The fifth passenger, a 26-year-old male resident of Los Angeles, was treated and released at the scene.

Speed appears to be a contributing factor in this collision, investigators said.

The intersection of 190th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard was temporarily closed for nine hours during the investigation.
