Redondo Organization Gets OSHA Grant

Redondo Beach-based Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice receives a Susan Harwood Training Grant.

The U.S. Department of Labor today announced awards totaling more than $500,000 to nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles and Redondo Beach for health and safety training.

Susan Harwood Training Grants are designed to provide training and education for workers and employers on the recognition, avoidance and prevention of safety and health hazards in their workplaces, and to inform workers of their rights and employers of their responsibilities under the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

In Redondo Beach, Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice was awarded $152,000 to provide health and safety training to warehouse workers with limited English competencies and low literacy levels.

In Los Angeles, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network was awarded $185,513 to conduct health and safety training for at-risk immigrant day laborers.

UCLA will receive $181,390 to train low-wage mostly Spanish-speaking immigrant workers in the hotel, car wash and waste industries.
