Redondo Prepares to Count Its Homeless
The survey, part of a regional effort, will help determine monies that the city receives to aid those living on the streets.
The city is seeking volunteers to tally the number of people living on our streets or homeless shelters next week.
The Jan. 26 count, part of a regional effort, will help determine the monies that the city receives to help aid those without a home. Social service agencies have reported for such resources since the economy took a turn for the worse a couple of years ago.
Redondo participants in the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count will assemble at 7 p.m. at Perry Park. The count is expected to last until midnight, according to Councilman Steve Diels.

During Tuesday night’s City Council session, he said that 70 or so volunteers have already stepped forward for the tally.
The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority conducts this area-wide count of those without a home every two years. In 2009, it identified about 43,000 people across the county who did not have a home. When that figure was combined with Glendale, Pasadena and Long Beach (which conduct their own citywide counts), the homeless population reached nearly 50,000.
