Redondo Union Senior Charged with Possession of Marijuana for Sale

A Redondo Union High School student has been charged with possession of marijuana for sale after being arrested on the school campus Friday.
Judge Thomas R. Sokolov of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Courthouse, released Jonathan Becdach, 18, from police custody Tuesday morning on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court May 6.
Becdach, a Lomita resident and a senior at Redondo Union, was detained at the principal's office Friday morning after school staff heard reports that he was allegedly selling pot to other students on campus.

Redondo Beach schools are on spring break this week and school officials could not be reached for comment.
Sgt. Peter Grimm of the Redondo Beach Police Department said it is unclear how many students were involved in the alleged sale. A small amount of marijuana was discovered in Becdach's backpack, Grimm said.

Drug-related arrests at the high school are rare, he said.
Possession of marijuana for sale is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years under the California Health and Safety Code.
